Efficient light harvesting and photon sensing via engineered cooperative effects

Abstract Efficient devices for light harvesting and photon sensing are fundamental building blocks of basic energy science many essential technologies. Recent efforts have turned to biomimicry design the next generation light-capturing devices, partially fueled by an appreciation fantastic efficiency initial stages natural photosynthetic systems at capturing photons. In such extended excitonic states thought play a functional role, inducing cooperative coherent effects, as superabsorption supertransfer photoexcitations. Inspired this observation, we artificial light-harvesting photodetection device that maximally harnesses effects enhance efficiency. The relies on separating absorption transfer processes (energetically spatially) in order overcome obstacle exploiting capture: enhanced emission accompany superabsorption. This engineered separation greatly improves scalability system.
